WCSWANS Book Discussion: Eat, Pray, Love

WCSWANS members and non-members met at Alcheldo’s in Tiverton, RI to discuss the book Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. What a great group of women who attended! As I indicated at the meeting, meetings like this  are why I started WCSWANS. We had some great laughs and such insightful discussion! Discussions related to the book themes as well as the how the book related to our own lives. It seems that while many woman could not afford to travel around the world they could relate to Elizabeth’s inner journey. Many women can relate at some point in their life to Elizabeth’s  feeling of being stuck and yet trying to meet the expectations of society. But as Elizabeth modeled, we realize we have a choice in our life in how we perceive it and how we live it. I couldn’t possibly be able to try to share the many insightful comments shared by each attendee. However, I would love for individuals to share comments about the book and/or the event in the comment section below.
Thank you to Alcheldo’s for the great food and space for the event.  Thank you to all the ladies who attended who shared their thoughts and themselves at this event! Thank you also to the Providence Journal to for taking pictures and doing a story about our discussion event for the Sunday paper!

  1. I just wanted to say that I had a wonderful time. Not only is the book, “Eat, Pray, Love” an easy read but it is actually full of “Laugh out Loud” moments. You will want to go to Rome and speak Italian before the first chapter ends!

A bonus to the entire evening was meeting such wonderful women. It was like the book talk was just a cover for the real purpose of the get together.

Not only did we talk about the book but we all connected spiritually, and although some may find that corny or crazy, it wasn’t. We are all on a journey of self-discovery and we melded together as if that meeting was part of our paths. It was a “checkpoint” of sorts where we all encouraged each other to keep creating, keep connecting, and keep moving upward to be the best that we can be.

So, what can I say about the Swan’s Club…not enough! Become a member and make friends with a group of great, inspirational, and ambitious women who want to finally leave their mark in this world.

  3. Hi Maureen,
Check out the TED video of Elizabeth Gilbert (2009) it is 20 minutes, about the genius in all of us http://www.ted.com/talks/elizabeth_gilbert_on_genius.html .

Also, the book was amazing in jump starting my own sense of where can I find Italy, India, and Indonesia? But most importantly I am so glad to see women gathering to discuss what matters and how they want to create their lives. Here is the link to Projo in case folks missed the column: http://www.projo.com/books/content/books_club_of_week_08_08-08-10_59JC3KI_v23.5757c7.html

Looking forward to seeing you all soon!
    Michelle
